The latest entry in the Canon’s flagship EOS camera lineup – the now 4K capable C300 Mark II just received a major upgrade. The owners of the camera (and future owners) can now benefit from a new lens mount service option, which offers the capability to change the camera’s original EF mount to EF Mount with Cinema Lock or to a PL mount or vice versa.
The locking EF mount offers improved stability with heavier EF mount lenses with Canon’s Cine lenses like the CN-E primes and heavier L-series still zoom lenses like the 70-200mm f2.8L IS II.
Unfortunately, the option is limited for the moment and it’s only available for the European owners of the C300 Mark II. The Lens Mount Replacement service can be booked in at the Canon Regional Competence Centres (RCC) in France, Germany, Italy, Sweden or the UK.
Alternatively, the PL lens mount and shim kits are also available.
Up until now the camera has only been available in an EF mount, but by January 2016 customers can choose whether to purchase an EF mount or a PL mount version as promised back in April 2015 during the NAB trade show in Las Vegas where the camera was officially unveiled.
As expected, the upcoming PL mount version of the camera will provide support for all of Canon’s PL mount cinema lenses and other industry-standard PL lenses included.
Now you can either send your EOS C300 Mark II to a Regional Competence Centre directly or via your local Canon Authorised Service Provider in order to perform the Lens Mount Service or to purchase a PL Lens Mount and/or the Shim kit directly for self-installation.
The non-EU based owners of the camera still have a legit option to purchase the spare parts and swap the mount on their own. All Lens Mount Upgrade Services are available at a fixed price of €450/£330 depending on the local currency of the RCC that performs the service.
