You may remember a while back we reported on the Miller & Schneider G-Cup – a fresh design on a custom eyecup specifically designed to improve your experience with the Panasonic GH4. The G-Cup eyecup provides a larger and more comfortable grip, while blocking unwanted light from entering the viewfinder screen. And since then, the team at M&S have been working hard on developing a similar custom viewfinder eyecup for the popular Sony A7 mirrorless cameras such as the Sony A7s, Sony A7SII and Sony A7RII, which are of particular interest to filmmakers looking for a more discreet and bare-bones rig when shooting incognito for example.
The A-Cup is a custom eyecup designed for the Sony a7 series of cameras, improving the electronic viewfinder and overall ergonomics.
Here is more info from Miller & Schneider:
The A-Cup is designed to look and feel like an extension of the camera. It can be used with either eye, providing a comfortable, flexible cushion to push against and a solid third point of contact. It wraps around the eye to block out light, and it doesn’t disrupt the camera’s shape or balance.
Simply put, the A-Cup allows you to comfortably use your camera’s EVF, allowing handheld shooting with comfort and ease.
M&S have designed the A-Cup as simply as possible so that they can make it as cheaply as possible. The A-Cup doesn’t add a diopter or lens, it simply changes the shape of the EVF’s cushion. The A-Cup is compatible with all models in the Sony a7 series.
When I owned a GH4 last year I did order the G-Cup and found it to be very useful and fit the camera perfectly. Now, that I sold my GH4 a few months back and bought a Sony A7s, I can’t wait to get the A-Cup and try it out.
The A-Cup is available for $34.95 directly from Miller & Schneider, but if you are like me and live in Europe, you can purchase the A-Cup within the EU from lovinpix (Paris, France) saving yourself some import charges.
