Odyssey 7Q and 7Q+ Will Support the Panasonic Varicam LT Camera’s Raw Format

Right after the announcement of the Panasonic Varicam LT has spread like wildfire, Convergent Design came out with another exciting news. Almost instantly, the company unveiled that the VariCam V-RAW is the newest format to be supported in Convergent Design’s Odyssey RAW Bundle for Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7Q+ Monitor/Recorders. In other words, once the Panasonic VariCam LT receives the RAW output in a firmware upgrade later this summer, the Odyssey 7Q and 7Q+ will be able to record all frame rates and resolutions available for output from the camera.

In addition to the RAW record capabilities, users can integrate the Odyssey’s Image Analysis Tools for focus, color and exposure, as well as its accurate OLED monitor and comprehensive Odyssey LUT System. For now, the paid firmware update for Convergent Design’s  flagship monitor/recorders supports plenty of other Raw formats of cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA, Canon C500 and C300 MK2, Sony FS7 and FS700, IO Industries Flare 2KSDI, Indiecam indieGS2K, and upcoming support for the AJA CION and IO Industries Flare 4KSDI.

Typically, all new RAW cameras that can be supported by the Odyssey monitor/recorders will be added to the Odyssey RAW Bundle in the future. The RAW Bundle still costs $995, however, if you don’t need the permanent license, you can also take advantage of the daily rental option that will set you back just $99.

Depending on the camera you tend to utilize, the Odyssey 7Q and 7Q+ record in the manufacturer’s native Raw format, and encode into Cinema DNG, or process and record in different flavors of Apple ProRes, up to 240fps.

All in all, the Odyssey RAW Bundle includes all RAW record options for the Odyssey7Q+ and Odyssey7Q combined into one powerful and affordable bundle, which makes the Convergent Design’s Monitor/Recorders not only incredibly versatile and powerful tools but also excellent portable monitors. On the official page of the Odyssey RAW Bundle, you can find helpful resources, videos and technical specifications on the multiple Raw formats, record times and everything you need to know about the upgrade.
