All Sony Alpha 7 series shooters should be more than happy to know that Zeiss just announced the widest full-frame E-Mount prime with autofocus – the ZEISS Batis 18mm/f2.8. The lens is the latest addition to the successful ZEISS Batis lens line-up that includes the very desired ZEISS Batis 25mm f/2 and the quite excellent ZEISS Batis 85mm f/1.8. Just like its predecessors, the 18mm f2.8 Batis is fully compatible with all E-mount cameras and offer not only fast, quiet autofocus, but also a handy, rubberized focus ring that supports precise manual focusing. On top of that, the Zeiss Batis 18mm/f2.8 E-Mount lens comes with an innovative OLED display providing straightforward and intuitive workflow when pulling focus. Just as all other ZEISS Batis lenses, this one is also equipped with dust and weather seals, allowing it to be used in even the harshest and most challenging weather conditions.
Furthermore, the super wide-angle camera lens consists of 11 lens elements in ten groups and is based on the ZEISS Distagon optical design. Four of the lens elements are aspheric on both sides, and seven are made from special types of glass. The Floating Elements design permits constantly high image performance in the entire focal plane providing Consistently excellent image quality across the entire image field.
