Building the Ultimate 2017 Dream Desk For Your Creative Workflow

Here’s another practical, neat, and yet extremely efficient setup of Jonathan Morrison that certainly can make your day. But, let’s not forget it’s 2017, so what would a dream desk setup be without a top-spec 2016 MacBook Pro, high-end 5K display, insanely fast external drive, premium speakers, and of course, a stylish Ikea desk with a glossy reflective top thrown into to the mix. When you add the touching story of the little BB featured in the video, you get a truly inspiring and emotional piece to watch that I personally haven’t seen for quite some time, especially on YouTube.

Funnily enough, the desk showcased in the video above is actually a dining table that obviously, you won’t be able to find into the office section of Ikea. Nevertheless, it provides plenty of room for multiple accessories and activities, has a stylish, minimalistic look and it’s perfect for proper cable management.

Furthermore, the suggested top-spec 2016 MacBook Pro packed with 2.9 i7 quad core processor, and Radeon 460 GPU should make editing of even highly demanding 6K Red Raw footage in real-time a breeze. And, what a better way to review your edit and enjoy it in its full glory than the LG 5K UltraFine monitor boasting whopping 5120 x 2880 resolution and 218 pixels per inch that also seems to be matching perfectly the quality of the 2016 MacBook Pro display.

Of course, you should add a decent pair of sound speakers just like the ADAM Audio ARTist 3 Powered Studio Monitors that provide a plenty of connectivity option including USB while offering high-quality audio in an incredibly compact design with glossy black or white finish. Each speaker is equipped with a 4.5″ basket woofer with a carbon fiber diaphragm and the acclaimed X-ART tweeter to provide pro-level audio with terrific clarity and a full frequency response.

To store your media, you will also need a reliable and extremely fast external drive that is on par with the mind-boggling transfer speeds provided by the 2016 MacBook Pro’s built-in SSD. The LaCie 2TB Bolt 3 Thunderbolt 3 External SSD clearly ticks all the boxes in that regard sporting two 1TB M.2 SSDs configured in a RAID 0 array capable of delivering up to 2800 MB/s read and 2200 MB/s write speeds.

Here’s the full list of the components you’ll need to build this setup:

  • IKEA OPPEBY desk
  • 2016 15″ MacBook Pro with Touch Bar
  • LG UltraFine 5K Display
  • Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus
  • ADAM ARTist 3 Speakers (x2)
  • Speaker Stands
  • LaCie Bolt 3 External Drive
  • Apple Magic Keyboard
  • Logitech MX Master Bluetooth Mouse
  • Tomons Desk Lamp

The rest bits and pieces of this dream desk setup include the Apple Magic Keyboard, Logitech MX Master, Tomons Desk Lamp along with the Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus LEDs. These items not only complete the overall look of the dream setup but also turn it into a neat and comfortable working area with plenty of extra room that should meet every demanding requirement of most creative professionals and enthusiasts alike out there.

            …Macbook Pro 2015!

          • Munchausen

Well, I’d suggest Macbook Pro 2017… do not buy it.
I had a H97-D3H from a 2 year old desktop and decided to build a workhorse around it. So I added a i7 4790 CPU, a Samsung 120 GB SSD and 8GB of RAM. The result was very promising so I raised the game with a 2TB WD Black, 8GB more RAM, a GTX1070 and even a Corsaire 550 gold PSU.
Everything stayed below half the price of a 2017 MBP 15inch. It’s a 20 kg big black box in the end but you can hide it under the desk and go shoot some weddings, you’re covered.

What a nice Ikea catalog picture!
Complete with a glossy desk! Tons of lights behind the monitor! Yes a real Apple laptop that are useless for real work in real post-production.
Must I’ve missed a couple of decades of real post suite design… As keep it dark, darker, no reflective surface, buy the best chair, again buy the best chair, did I say buy the best chair.
Avoid usinng laptop unless on a set for rough edit.
Avoid Apple, avoid Apple, avoid Apple, spend your money on black paint instead

Ok, your desk looks verry good, I agree!
    But a “top-spec 2016 MacBook Pro”?? #alternativefacts
16GB old DDR3 RAM / quadcore 2,8 Ghz CPU / 2GB GPU for 3000$ ?? Bad dream, hope you wake up soon 😉
Like I put a 90HP engine in a Mustang. Still looks got, but don´t call it a muscle car!
    Sleep well 😉

this macbook pro is for final cut pro only, as it out performs any and all macs, hackintoshes and anything running premier pro .
