You may recall Atomos announced a new sub-$1,000 4K/60 HDMI recorder called the Atomos Ninja Inferno just about a week ago, alongside some highly-anticipated functionality upgrades to their existing 4K recorder line-up – namely the 4K and 2K Raw recording firmware for their Shogun Inferno.
Initially, Atomos was supposed to release the full supported frame rates according to their roadmap as a firmware update on March 30th, however due to some problems in testing high-speed raw recording on Sony FS cameras, their Raw recording was limited to 2K/30p on these cameras. See below their statement that was posted last week on the official Atomos facebook page.
Download CDNG Raw firmware now for Shogun & Shogun Flame users. We found problems in testing with Sony FS higher frame rate CDNG but in order not to delay the release further it is available now up to 2K 30p & we will work on 2K 50/60/100/120p for a later release. As a reminder, there is no playback for CDNG recording but they will appear in the file list for recording confirmation. Shogun Inferno firmware for CDNG is close and will be released as soon as it passes our testing. Once again thanks for your patience….
Well, the good news is that today, Cinema DNG high-speed 2K/120p recording is now available on the Shogun Inferno for supported Sony FS cameras – FS5/FS7 and FS700.
The latest Atomos firmware 8.2 includes also 4K CinemaDNG raw support for Canon C300 II and Varicam LT cameras. To access the CinemaDNG Raw format simply open the Record Format page and select Cinema DNG from the codec options and press OK. Cinema DNG is supported on Sony, Canon and Panasonic cameras.
Here are the frame rates/resolutions you get in CinemaDNG Raw depending on the various supported cameras.
