The Stryder SB200 is a new bi-colour, 200 Watt 5-inch LED fresnel light that is part of Ikan’s new Stryder line of COB LED lights. Announced back at NAB 2017 alongside the more compact Mylo and Onyx compact LED lights, the new Stryder SB200 COB LED from Ikan has an extremely quiet active cooling system, is DMX compatible and can be powered via either an Anton Bauer or V-mount battery.
In addition, the Stryder SB200 is easy to move around on set with its lightweight Nylon-Resin body that makes for a quick and easy setup. The light’s hardy outer shell makes the Stryder SB200 resilient from the rigours of modern video production in the field.
The LED light features a large yellow knob on the back, which makes it easy to operate menus and adjust colour temperature. Another cool feature is that the 4 way barn doors are included.
Thanks to the 5-inch acrylic fresnel lens, you can adjust the beam angle of the light to either 60 degrees or 30 degrees for a more focused beam. DMX in and out allow for studio remote use, and another intricate design is the V-mount or AB battery plate, which is located underneath the light providing enough clearance between the yoke and the battery plate to accommodate larger batteries.

Having a single chip Fresnel LED light on set can be extremely helpful, as those are slowly, but surely, replacing the more traditional tungsten based fresnels (I sold my two trusty ARRI 650s long time ago and replaced them with Aputure LS C120t COBs), as those can produce quite a bit of heat. COB LED is definitely the way forward in LED lighting for larger and more powerful fixtures, proven by the many offerings by different manufacturers these days.
The Ikan Stryder SB200 Fresnel LED can be purchased for $1,199 US from authorised dealers such as B&H and Adorama. To learn more about it and other Ikan lights head over to Ikan’s website.
