The brand new SLR Magic CINE 18mm f/2.8 showcased at this year’s IBC trade show in Amsterdam is the latest addition to the SLR Magic’s cine lens lineup available for Sony E-Mount cameras. It joins the existing 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm counterparts while providing the same robust build quality and compact form factor along with convenient gears for focus and iris control and round aperture for smooth bokeh. The newcomer also features a useful 0.66’/0.2 m close focus distance and a clickless aperture ring making smooth focus pulling a breeze.
The SLR Magic CINE 18mm f/2.8 lens seems to be the perfect fit for a wide variety of shooting scenarios and situations where an ultra-wide field of view is required, even if used in some challenging low-light conditions. The fully mechanical design of the unit is robust and lightweight, thus further reducing the weight of your rig. It also complements the design and form factor of other lenses in the lineup which allows you to switch lenses in the field without setting everything all over again.
Furthermore, the optical design of the lens incorporates 10 elements in 8 groups while its aperture features a manually controlled diaphragm and 9 blades allowing users to stop down from F2.8 to F16. There is also a 62mm filter thread on the front for further convenience while controlling exposure with an ND filter. The compact size of the SLR Magic CINE 18mm F2.8 lens and its weight of just 445g/15.7oz also makes it an excellent choice of lens to be used with gimbals or picked for some other remote camera work.
