NAB 2015: ALTA, MIMIC, WEDGE and MOVI XL from Freefly Will Revolutionize the Market Once Again

Just two years after the release of the MōVI 10 gimbal, Freefly Systems are about to turn the tide once again with their cutting edge gimbal technology and the introduction of four new products at this years NAB 2015 convention. The new Freefly Systems products are – ALTA, MIMIC, WEDGE and MōVI-XL. The definitive aerial platform ALTA is easy to fly, robust, and adaptable drone that is optimized to carry cameras weighing up to 15 pounds, and is guided by the state-of-the-art Freefly Synapse flight controller to ensure safety, rock-solid stability, and versatility. The ALTA will be priced at $8,495 and is expected to begin shipping to customers in June 2015. Customers can pre-order the ALTA from the Freefly Store or Freefly Dealers immediately with a $1,000 deposit.

Freefly also presented another revolutionary piece of gear. The MIMIC is one of the most intuitive and easy to operate gimbal and UAV control systems. With this new, intuitive MōVI Control method, the operators will no longer need joysticks, knobs or wheels to operate. With MIMIC you can control your MoVI by just tilting, panning or rolling the controller and the gimbal will follow this moves.

It provides an instant and organic way for gimbal operators to execute complex moving shots with precise framing after just minutes of practice.

In a nutshell, the WEDGE is a wireless three-channel lens controller that allows operators to control Focus, Iris and Zoom remotely while moving the camera and framing the shot. It works in conjunction with the MōVI Controller, and can be adapted to various professional cameras, lenses and motor combos.

All in all, it is the smallest and lightest 3-channel lens controller ever, fitting into place snugly in a tiny package between the MōVI cage and camera. The Freefly WEDGE is priced at $2,495 and will begin shipping in early May this year.

At last but not least, Freefly introduced the MōVI XL that is designed for heavier camera systems like the ARRI Alexa and Phantom Flex4K. With this, the MōVI family will expand beyond the M5, M10, M15 to include the XL.

The MōVI-XL will be available in the 3rd calendar quarter, in a bundle with the MōVI Controller, from the Freefly Store or only through select Freefly dealers at a price of $40,000, and can be pre-ordered with a $4,000 deposit.
