Atomos just released firmware update 7.1 for their latest Flame Series HDR Monitors/Recorders – the Atomos Shogun Flame and the HDMI-based Atomos Ninja Flame. The latest firmware update adds HDR support for JVC Log, so good news for all you JVC LS300 shooters, and all current RED Digital Cinema cameras including DSMC2 cameras – the Red Raven and Red Scarlet-W. In addition to adding support for the aforementioned cameras, Atomos have implemented a new mathematical algorithm for better tonal mapping when shooting in LOG with supported cameras. Shooting in LOG and monitoring in HDR can be a bit tricky at first, so Atomos have also implemented a new simplified HDR waveform yellow line in AtomOS 7.1 to help you gauge the correct slider position for the dynamic range of the scene. Waveform Auto – is another super neat new feature that maps the actual max dynamic range of your scene, which looks super helpful.
AtomOS 7.1 Firmware Update
- Added HDR support for LOG video from JVC and Red cameras
- Improved accuracy for the colour gamut
- PQ input can now be selected for AtomHDR monitoring and grading from NLE’s with ST2084 output
- PQ output has been added for play-out to HDR monitors and televisions
- Improvements to accuracy and resolution in blacks when using AtomHDR mode
- A visual improvement has been made to the AtomHDR slider for easier access
- While in AtomHDR mode, a simplified HDR waveform line has been added to easily set the correct slider position for the dynamic range of the scene
- New options for AtomHDR include WFM Auto which automatically setting the HDR level for the current scene’s max brightness and WFM HDR which scales the WFM to view the HDR range to the full height of the WFM
- The waveform monitor will now display a percentage scale based on the input log mode
- Slow motion is now available in playback mode. Pausing video playback will automatically display the slider above playback controls and give you access to forward and reverse speed adjustments
- From the Battery page, there is now the option to manually override battery selection. This is designed to be used for the Atomos Power Station or other external power solutions
Bug Fixes in this release include:
- Fixed an issue where some files exported from NLE’s did not play audio
- Fixed an issue where waveform monitor graticules were not visible with some menus on the screen

Hdr on a monitor is an invention, a fake from atomos. HDR high dinamic range is the ability of a SENSOR from a camera, to capture a broader and big range of color tonalities. What atomos makes is confuse people. Making bad marketing.A monitor never can control the HDR of a video. The HDR is thr ability from the camera sensor. They have a brightness monitor in flame series that can give you users the ability to see more or less colors by tunning the brightness, what they said up to 1500 nits. But again, be aware, like when they said a 10bit monitor <– another fake as it is still a 8 bit panel but they use a FRC technique that makes the illysion or perception of being a 10bit but is still a 8 bit display. Please editor be aware and users of course, there is no HDR on this monitor and on no other one. HdR depends on the camera.

I’m sorry but it’s not. HDR is part of the new UHD Premium television standard that was released in January 2016, and it specifies a minimum brightness level in NITS for a monitor to be considered an HDR monitor.
As long as this Atomos monitor is able to reach a brightness level of 540 NITS ( HDR option 2 ) or 1,000 NITS ( HDR option 1 ) then it meets the HDR requirement for this new standard.

Samsung has stated that all of their TVs will meet this standard by 2017, and I expect to see much of this new TV standard implemented in new camera field monitors as we move forward. ( probably not the 4K requirement given the size of camera monitors )
Premium television are simply words, not professional words. Again Dynamic Range is what the sensor provides, the source is the sensor, the TV or the monitor cannot enhance what the source had. This is very simple and easy to undesrtand but people try too much often to say things like this. Thank you for your comments and links Guy, butI think it is not too much good to say the things Atomos said. Brightness have nothing to compare to dynamic range. Brightness helps by showing you more colors, well same colors but more perceptible. But Brightness never change HDR.
But we now have standards for HDR monitors and HDR projection systems that are independent of the content being displayed on them. So if Atomos has built a monitor that meets these HDR standards, they have every right to call their monitor an HDR monitor.

Hdr is defined as 4k 10bit 1000nits by the tv s but atomos is 1920×1080 ao not a 4k display so hdr is a fake a lie. they put confusion they practique bad marketing as this are not hdr monitors as it are nit 4k

I’m just a consumer and am looking at purchasing a Ninja Flame (for fun) but from my layman’s understanding of what Atomos was trying to convey was the their “HDR” clears away the fog of viewing when recording in s-log v-log etc. Hell I just learned what s-log was 2 days ago. Now I’m studying what LUT’s are lol.
Just my observation.
