More and more accessories and news around the latest Panasonic EVA1 5.7K pro camcorder are popping up, and today I have some exciting news to share with all of you. Shortly after receiving a new firmware update that took care of some bugs with slow-motion recording that some users have experienced, Panasonic is also officially addressing the concerns of early adopters, who have already received their EVA1 cameras in the past week or so, and reported a play between the EVA1 handgrip and the lock on the camera side when the handgrip is mounted onto the camera.
The AU-EVA1 uses a proprietary lock mechanism for its handgrip, and for those of you who have not yet heard of this issue, apparently quite a few EVA1 owners have reported that the connection between the handgrip and the lock is not as stable as expected. I personally experienced that on a pre-pro model at an open day event at a local reseller here in the UK.
Panasonic have issued an official statement regarding the issues with the EVA1 handgrip rotation lock. It was posted below by Mitch Gross, Cinema Product Manager at Panasonic over at DVXuser.com.
Panasonic has improved the design of the AU-EVA1 side handgrip, strengthening the rotation lock.
New EVA1s will ship from the factory with the improved design. Panasonic will exchange handgrips of the old design for new units.
Details on schedule, administration, and technical specifications are to follow during the coming week. We will post additional information soon.
Panasonic’s quick reaction is really good news and a clear sign as to how much they value their latest Super 35 camera and the company’s commitment to clear communication with their user base. The Panasonic EVA1 is shaping up to be quite the popular “kid on the block” with an expanding user base that can be quite vocal on various social media groups and other online forums.
Panasonic EVA1 PL Kit from Wooden Camera
And, for those of you out there, who are not content with using only EF mount glass on your Panasonic EVA1, well, there is great news for you. It looks like the good people at Wooden Camera, have been working on a “PL mount modification kit” for the EVA1 – you can see it teased towards the last few seconds of the video below.
From the video, Ryan from Wooden Camera explains that users will be able to install the PL mount at home without sending the camera back to Panasonic. This will involve unscrewing a few screws from the front of the camera and physically replacing the EF mount with a PL one.
No info on pricing or available has been released yet, but as Ryan mentioned in the video, there will be more news about this exciting new accessory for the EVA1 in a separate video soon. We’ll keep you guys updates on the particulars as soon as we know them.

- Top Plate and Battery Slide for EVA1 – $195 / $199
The Top Plate for EVA1 attaches by 4 x 1/4-20 screws and has rows of 1/4-20 holes and the ARRI accessory mount available in several places (3/8-16 screw hole with locating pins adjacent). The original Panasonic EVA-1 Handle can be reinstalled on the top plate and the Panasonic LCD Mount can be installed on the side using the included LCD Bracket Adapter.
Right rear ARRI accessory mount provides attachment for the Battery Slide (Panasonic EVA-1) which allows V-Mount or Gold Mount batteries to be installed at the camera rear without the use of a baseplate.
- UVF Mount (Sony FS5, Panasonic EVA-1) – $449 at B&H
The WC UVF Mount for the EVA1 is also compatible with the Sony FS5 and replaces the original viewfinder mount system included with the camera to provide a permanent level horizon to the camera.
This EVF mount features 3 points of adjustment: 15mm Tube Clamp for tilt and distance to the camera, NATO thumbscrew for positioning on NATO rail, and tension knuckle built into Sony EVF and Panasonic EVA-1 to adjust tilt. The smart tool-less design allows quick installation and removal of UVF V2 Sled. A Safety pin is present to prevent accidental removal.

Oh man – get me an MFT mount on this camera and I’ll definitely buy it. Would need to change the flange distance though, so probably not probable. But that would put this over the C200 in my opinion.

A super 35 sensor is bigger than a MFT,
Why would you love to get a smaller sensor size? (assuming the MFT mount will be used on MFT lenses, too small to cover the full S35 size)
Many MFT lenses come close to covering Super35mm – but with such a large 5.7k sensor, it would be easy to crop in 1.2x or 1.3x on the sensor with zero loss in quality to allow MFT lenses to cover the sensor.
However, I’m most interested in using the Metabones Speedbooster and XL on an MFT mount. In my opinion, the EF mount is one of the weakest out there now – compared to MFT, E-Mount, and Fui’s X-Mount. Unfortunately, I dislike Sony’s image, Fuji doesn’t make a video camera (come on, Fuji!), and I’d like a larger mount than MFT.
the JVC GY-LS300 has an MFT mount with a Super35mm sensor – which works amazingly well. Unfortunately, that camera falls short in a few other areas to make it not worth it compared to an FS5, C200, or EVA1.
But, if Panasonic decided to make an EVA1 with an MFT mount, I think it would do really well – The Speedbooster that everyone uses on Sonys cameras is a game changer and they are crushing it right now because of it.
Speed booster allows you to use lenses, but is far from being optically perfect and soften your image especially on wide angle.
You will have much better result using a lens filling the full sensor without this optical add on.
Also almost all cine lenses are native S35 (almost). The offer on native mft is very limited compare to EF mount.
Y’all don’t understand. A M43 mount in front of a Super 35 sensor isn’t about using M43 glass, it’s about having a shallow-flange taking mount to adapt to other mounts — lenses intended for Super 35 (or larger) imaging areas.
