FUJIFILM Updates Camera Firmware to Support Tascam’s Audio Adapter

For all the thought and effort that goes into creating a hi-resolution camera image, you’d think that camera manufacturers would put some effort into the audio they record. But all too often, the amps included in their cameras are more of an afterthought.

That’s where an audio adapter like the Tascam CA-XLRd-F can come in real handy. It takes the audio from a microphone and balances it out to make it easier for the camera to record it. Now FujiFilm has released a firmware update that will support the XLRd-F so Fuji fans can have the best digital audio to match their video workflow.

Thru the firmware update, the Adapter is now supported on both Fuji digital mirrorless cameras, the X-T4 and X-S10, and the key feature of the firmware update is that the XLRd will connect to a Fuji camera through the hot-shoe adapter.

This provides for a seamless digital connection that will transfer a crystal clear audio signal. Other features of the firmware update are broken down by camera model as follows:

FUJIFILM X-T4 firmware version 1.40

  • XLR microphone adapter (TASCAM CA-XLR2d-F) is now supported. As a result, the [XLR MIC ADAPTER SETTING] option has been added under the [AUDIO SETTING] in the movie menu as well as [4ch AUDIO PLAYBACK] option has been added under [SOUND SETTING] in the setup menu.
  • a firmware bug has been fixed, which caused [WB SHIFT] saved as “CUSTOM” would be disabled by operating the “Q” menu.
  • another minor bug has been fixed.

FUJIFILM X-S10 firmware version 2.30

  • XLR microphone adapter (TASCAM CA-XLR2d-F) is now supported. As a result, the [XLR MIC ADAPTER SETTING] option has been added under the [AUDIO SETTING] in the movie menu as well as [4ch AUDIO PLAYBACK] option has been added under [SOUND SETTING] in the setup menu.
  • The firmware bugs have been fixed, which rarely caused the Bluetooth paired device to not be registered correctly or that the camera would not turn on after paired device was registered.

The Tascam XLRd sports two XLR connections with phantom power provided from the adapter, and also supports a 3.5mm microphone connection. This flexibility gives creators the freedom to use any microphone they currently have in their arsenal.

The microphones can also be mounted directly to the XLRd thanks to a microphone mount that can be added to the audio adapter itself. Convenient since the adapter takes up the hot shoe.

This means users don’t have to have an additional cage or bracket in order to use additional cold-shoe mounts.

Creators who are using one of the Fuji models, however, want to be sure they pick up the F variant of the XLR-d, so they can be sure the firmware update will function with it properly.
