DJI has announced a pair of new gimbals to the Ronin line earlier today. The DJI RS3 and RS3 Pro have been designed to be easier to balance and calibrate, with a new auto-lock system, and that keeps your camera 20% more stable than the previous Ronin. Additionally, they have released a transmitter that can transmit a 4K video signal for miles.
“Ever since the introduction of the first Ronin back in 2014, we’ve continually gained feedback from industry professionals on how we can enhance our products to cater to their evolving needs,” said Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI. “Implementing this feedback, we’ve optimized the design, stabilization, and gimbal control to create reliable, next-generation stabilizers designed for unparalleled efficiency.“

DJI RS3
The new DJI RS3 has a new auto-lock feature that will unlock and refold the axes by simply turning the gimbal on. The lock will then release with no need to rebalance thanks to a position memory that can return the axes to their last known position. Tapping the power button once will place the RS3 gimbal into sleep mode.
The RS3 is also lighter than before, weighing just under 3 pounds (1.3kg), making it easy to hold with one hand. It has a tested payload capacity of 6.6 pounds (3kg), which DJI says is more than enough to support the majority of mirrorless and DSLR cameras on the market.
Its new 3rd generation RS Stabilization Algorithm calibrates the camera and provides a 20% improvement in stabilization performance over the RSC2, and the for lenses with focal lengths up to 100mm, the gimbal routing uses SuperSmooth mode to aid in stabilization even further. The RS3 also sports a 1.8” OLED color touchscreen and a redesigned UI which puts all controls right where they can naturally be accessed.

This includes a gimbal mode switch to alternate between follow, pan and tilt follow modes, plus a first-person view mode. There’s also Bluetooth connectivity for automatic connection and remote operation without the need for any additional cables.
The RS3 battery grip enjoys all-day battery life of up to 12 hours before recharging and supports PD fast charging at up to 18 watts. The battery can also be recharged on the go, meaning that filmmakers don’t have to stop working while the gimbal is getting more juice.

RS3 Pro
The DJI RS 3 Pro takes the new design even further, with unibody carbon fiber arms that can be extended to house payloads of up to ten pounds, including larger cinema cameras like the Sony FX6, Canon C70, or the RED Komodo. This additional load capacity has been accomplished without making the RS3 Pro heavier than the original RS3 design.
Moreover, the RS3 Pro carries the new DJI LiDAR Range Finder which can project over 43,200 ranging points within a 14-meter area, which is then fed to ActiveTrack Pro for faster target identification and tracking and a steadier, clear shot, and provides even greater support when using manual lenses.
Other features include dual RSA/NATO ports, a battery port, and support for accessories including a briefcase handle, Twist Grip Dual Handle, and a tethered control handle. The RS3 Pro also supports a variety of third-party accessories and works with jibs, Steadicams, sliders, and cable cams.

DJI Tranmission Transmitter
Lastly, the DJI Transmission transmitter is DJI’s first foray into independent wireless video transmission. Developed with lessons learned from the Ronin 4D’s advanced video transmission technology, the DJI Transmission is capable of reception, monitoring, control, and recording in a single handheld system.
The system employs DJIs o3 Pro transmission protocols, which can send a 1080p/60fps live transmission, with time-code and 16-bit 48 kHz audio monitoring a distance of up to 20,000 feet, or nearly four miles. The wifi signal also uses either 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz bands with up to 23 encrypted channels of interference-free transmission.
DJI’s 7-inch 1500 nit High Bright remote monitor provides a wireless connection and supports one transmitter with four multiple receivers. There are two modes of operation for the device, including a control mode for remote camera control, and a Broadcast mode for other crew and clients to observe shooting as it happens. The transmitter also supports Apple ProRest 4444 XQ.

The DJI RS3 will be available for purchase at a retail price of $549, which includes the Gimbal, BG21 Grip, USB-C Charging Cable, Lens-Fastening Support, and Extended Grip/Tripod (Plastic), Quick-Release Plates, Multi-Camera Control Cable, and Screw Kit. The DJI RS 3 Combo retails for $719 and additionally includes one Briefcase Handle, Focus Motor (2022), Focus Motor Rod Kit, Focus Gear Strip, a second Multi-Camera Control Cable, and one Carrying Case.
Meanwhile, DJI RS 3 Pro will be available for purchase at a retail price of $869 and includes the Gimbal, BG30 Grip, USB-C Charging Cable, Lens-Fastening Support (Extended), Extended Grip/Tripod (Metal), Quick-Release Plates, Briefcase Handle, Multi-Camera Control Cable, Screw Kit, and Carrying Case.
The DJI RS 3 Pro Combo retails for $1,099 and additionally includes one Extended Quick Release Plate, Phone Holder, Focus Motor (2022), Focus Motor Rod Kit, Focus Gear Strip, Ronin Image Transmitter (previously known as the DJI RavenEye Image Transmission System), two Hook-and-Loop Straps, and additional cables.
The DJI Transmission is available for $2499 and includes the DJI Video Transmitter, DJI High-Bright Remote Monitor, Remote Monitor Hood, Installation Toolkit, Protector Case, two WB37 Intelligent Batteries, one WB37 Battery Charging Hub, as well as various cables and battery adapters.
DJI is also offering the setup piecemeal, with the independent Video Transmitter and High-Bright Remote Monitor also available for $1,699 and $1,099, respectively.
