Panasonic Unveils Trio of New Cameras for Live Event or Streamed Productions

Over the weekend at IBC in Berlin, Germany, Panasonic announced two new multi-purpose box cameras with large format image sensors.

These cameras are designed to meet the demands of various types of production, including broadcast, live event streaming, and online digital content creation.

The Panasonic AW-UB50 and AW-UB10 are tailored for content creators using video marketing, educational video tools, and live video streaming.

Both 4K cameras feature full-size MOS image sensors (full size for the UB50 and 4/3 for the UB10), dual native ISO, and a high dynamic range of 14+ stops and 13 stops respectively when capturing using Panasonic’s VLog L lossless codec.

They promise high-quality images with superior color reproduction and sharp resolution across all sensor formats.

Additionally, both cameras operate with dual SD card slots, automatic subject tracking and autofocus, and pro-grade input/output interfaces including 3G-SDI OUT, HDMI Type A, LAN terminal, TC IN/OUT, GENLOCK IN, USB Type-C, with a 3.5mm minijack mic terminal and headphone connection.

Panasonic is planning a future update to add IP transmission support for NDI HX2, RTMPS, and SRT streaming protocols.

The cameras will also receive AI tracking support and automatic framing to streamline the content creation workflow when remotely controlling the cameras.

Despite being ultra-compact, the newcomers can be built out with numerous camera accessories to create a professional-grade camera rig when necessary.

They are also compatible with a wide range of Panasonic studio cameras and PTZ cameras and can be controlled through software like Media Production Suite for remotely controlled camera setups.

Panasonic also announced a new IP-based Studio Camera with the UCX100 Studio Camera.

The UCX100 captures live broadcast-quality 4K video with an optimal horizontal and vertical resolution of 2,000 TVL while maintaining HLG/BT2020-based color gamut and dynamic range, even when adapting to changing stage lighting conditions.

The camera’s color science has been optimized for LED-style studio lighting and large wall-mounted displays, and with the help of a built-in HD Low pass filter, moirè from those screens is kept to a minimum.

The unit can also be paired with Panasonic’s UCU700 CCU to capture high-speed video at 4K and 1080p, with twice the HDR and UHD speed of other models.

Inputs and outputs include 12G-SDI, NDI High Bandwidth, SRT, and SMPTE 2110 with a bandwidth of 25 Gbps.

Furthermore, the camera sports Genlock IN for synchronizing video with external signals, and reference output, TSL 5.0 for sending and receiving tally information, bus switching, and material name information with networked external devices, support for Dante network audio., and multiple built-in ND filters ranging from clear -1/64.

Pricing and availability

Panasonic did not provide pricing for the new cameras or details on when they will be available for preorder. However, the company did mention that the window of availability begins in December 2024 and runs through the Spring 2025.
