RØDE Eliminates Need for Receiver with Latest Micro Update

With a new firmware update, the award-winning RØDE Wireless Micro Microphone system no longer requires a receiver to connect to a smartphone.

The new feature, called Direct Connect, allows content creators to connect the Wireless Micro transmitter directly to an iOS device, thereby eliminating the need for a receiver.

Celebrated for its compact design and impressive battery life of up to 21 hours, the RØDE Wireless Micro recently won the Best Microphone award at Rolling Stone’s 2025 Audio Awards.

Its intuitive design and professional-grade sound quality make the Wireless Microphone a highly accessible wireless solution for audio recording, and the Direct Connect feature enhances this accessibility.

You can access the update through the RØDE Capture app, allowing all wireless transmitters to pair directly with iPhones and iPads via Bluetooth.

This update also simplifies setup while maintaining the digital audio quality that wireless microphones inherently provide.

Users will need to plug in the receiver for the initial update.

However, once the app has been updated and the device is paired, you can safely store the receiver back in its charging case since it will no longer be needed.

This results in a more compact smartphone kit, longer battery life during recording, and a more streamlined workflow.

It also means that should the receiver be misplaced during a shoot, the microphone’s transmitter can still function and provide the same, professional-quality audio.

“It’s a direct response to what our users have been asking for – true wireless freedom,” said Damien Wilson, CEO of RØDE.

“Less hardware and complete control from their phone.”

The main focus of this update is Direct Connect; however, RØDE has also introduced several additional features to improve the overall recording experience.

Among these is a new noise reduction feature that enhances audio quality by reducing background noise in uncontrolled environments.

Users can activate this setting with three options -low, high, or off – for each transmitter individually, allowing for greater control over the audio.

Content creators can choose to record each transmitter in either merged mode or separate tracks.

In merged mode, the audio is saved to a single stereo track, while stereo mode splits the tracks into separate channels.

Finally, the Capture app now offers new output gain control for finer adjustments of recording levels, ensuring perfectly balanced audio based on the desired sound design of the project.

Availability

The free update is accessible through the RØDE Capture App, which you can download and update via the iOS App Store.

The RØDE Wireless Micro is available globally in either USB-C or Lightning connections, and in black or white from RØDE and its authorized retailers, priced at $149.

This package includes two transmitters, a receiver, dead cat furries, all necessary cables, and a charging case.
