Panasonic S1R II Update
The firmware version 1.2 for the Panasonic S1R II further refines its hybrid shooting capabilities, making it an exceptional B camera for cinema production.
It supports advanced recording formats, including 8.1K and 7.2K (3:2) Open Gate recording, allowing RAW video data output through HDMI to an external recorder.
This setup positions the Lumix S1 as a strong competitor to many traditional cinema box cameras.
The update also introduces ARRI LogC3 support, accessible after purchasing the DMW-SFU3A software update key, enabling users to closely align their footage with ARRI’s color science.
It also features support for Apple’s high efficiency image format (HEIF), facilitating the capture of 10-bit color in 4:2:0.
Other improvements in Version 1.2 include expanded frame aspect ratio options, focus stacking to enhance depth of field, and the ability to display up to three frames simultaneously.
Users can now transfer original camera files to an external SSD directly from the camera’s CFExpress Type B or SD memory cards or via WiFi and wired USB LAN using Panasonic’s Capture One software.

- Timecode synchronization via Bluetooth.
- Compatibility with UVC/UAC devices.
- Bluetooth connectivity with DJI gimbals.
- HLG View Assist for accurate gradation and exposure checks on the camera’s monitor or viewfinder, as well as on compatible external monitors.
S1II & S1IIE Updates
The Panasonic S1II and SIIE mirrorless cameras will also receive firmware updates.
Version 1.1 adds ARRI LogC3 capability (with the purchased software update key), expanded aspect ratio options, stacked focus tracking, and WiFi data transfer support.
Users can choose from up to 10 different color options for frame autofocus.
Both firmware updates will be available free of charge from the LUMIX Global Support Website starting June 24, 2025.
Will the upcoming Panasonic S1II and SIIE become more viable B cameras for ARRI ecosystem users? Only time will tell.
