Venus Optics Mounts 10mm Zero-D Cine Prime for PL Support

Venus Optics has launched a new PL mount lens in its Laowa line of cine primes: the 10mm T2.9 Zero-D VV Cine prime lens.

This addition enhances the capabilities of the affordable yet high-performance Laowa lineup and completes the catalog for PL mount users.

While this lens is not entirely new, it is distinct from the earlier 10mm Zero-D model released for LPL mount users earlier this year.

Responding to the high demand for PL mount camera platforms, Venus Optics designed a mount that fits within the same space without affecting the camera’s focal length or focus mechanism.

The 10mm T2.9 Zero-D lens features 15 elements arranged in 9 groups, along with a 14-blade aperture.

This design offers cinematic bokeh and effective subject-background separation, featuring nearly zero distortion and minimal chromatic aberration.

It serves as an ideal choice for professional-grade cinematography, particularly with the new PL mount.

Additional specifications include a 113° focus throw, a 130.3° diagonal field of view, and a .8 gear mod.

These factors contribute to exceptional resolution and color fidelity from edge to edge when used with full-frame and Vista Vision camera sensors.

The lens also provides a 2.4x magnification factor, allowing for super close focusing with a minimum focusing distance of just 12cm.

This capability enables creative and dramatic close-ups.

Weighing only 530 grams (1.14 lbs) and featuring a 77mm front filter thread, the lens is compact and easy to balance on handheld gimbals and drone-mounted camera platforms.

However, users should be aware of the lens’s rear element protrusion.

According to Duclos Lenses, like previous Laowa Zero-D designs, the rear optical group extends deep behind the PL flange, which may interfere with internal ND filter arrays or sensor stacks.

Venus Optics has tested the lens on major camera bodies, including the Alexa Mini LF, Alexa 35, Sony Venice 2, and Sony Burano, approving its impressive image quality and clearance.

Nevertheless, users may want to verify compatibility for individual camera models to deploy the lens properly.
