Chinese lens manufacturer Viltrox has announced a new full-frame autofocus lens that Sony users are sure to take notice of.
The Viltrox AF 85mm F1.4 Pro FE is designed with e-Mount Sony cameras in mind, and is tailor-made for capturing portrait shots in the close up to full body range.
Dubbed as the “definitive 85mm Portrait Lens,” the Viltrox AF 85mm F1.4 Pro FE has been designed with optical precision.
With a full frame image space and peak aberration control, the lens delivers consistent sharpness from center to edge.

It is optically designed with 15 lens elements organized in eleven groups, including three low-dispersion ED lens elements, one aspherical lens element, and nine high refractive index elements.
The lens elements are also coated in Viltrox’s proprietary nano-coating that minimizes ghosting, artifacting, and lens flares, even in backlit scenes.
The lens also produces a shallow depth of field with a soft, dreamy bokeh from its eleven-bladed lens aperture that produces a consistent F1.4 aperture speed rating for improved low-light performance.
The lens also enjoys a viewing angle of 28°and a minimum shooting distance of .79 meters (31.1 inches).

The lens is fully autofocus with Hyper VCM motors to deliver fast, quiet, and smooth focusing.
These motors outperform traditional STM designs with 150% faster focusing speeds, which can shift from near to far objects in as little as 100 ms.
The lens also supports real-time eye and face detection, and can identify, lock on, and track subjects with millimeter precision.
Users can also switch to manual focus courtesy of the stock AF/MF switch, as well as a customizable focus function button, aperture ring de-clicking support, stepped to stepless modes, and remote control through the Viltrox app, which also serves to update the lens firmware.
The 85mm F1.4 Pro FE also has what Viltrox refers to as an onion control ring that boosts sharpness with peak lens aberration control.

The lens also dampens out distracting artifacts while delivering a smooth cinematic bokeh, with noise free images in dimly lit conditions.
Its full metal body isn’t weighed down by heft either, weighing at just 800 grams, but providing full protection against dust and moisture, and maintaining balance when capturing shots on the move.
It is ideal for working out in the field in difficult weather conditions.

The Viltrox AF 85mm F1.4 Pro FE is available now at an MSRP of $598 US (£569 UK plus VAT) from the Viltrox Amazon store and other authorized retailers. Currently only available in Sony E-Mount.
