Canon USA, along with its branches in Australia and Asia, has released a repair notice concerning the EOS R50 mirrorless camera.
This notice highlights a potential issue that may affect the functionality of the mode dial, prompting the need for repairs to rectify the problem.
Launched in 2023, the Canon EOS R50 targets budget-conscious content creators eager to produce engaging vlogs and selfie videos.
Nicknamed the “jack of all content creation trades,” this camera boasts a compact design featuring a 24.2 MP APS-C CMOS image sensor.

After issuing the apology, Canon specified that this issue impacts only a limited batch of black-bodied R50 cameras.
Some users have reported difficulties operating the mode dial, attributing the problem to either stiffness or an over-tightened dial assembly.
Those attempting to force the dial risk damaging it, leading to detachment from the camera body.
Notably, this advisory excludes white-bodied models, directing attention solely to the black units. To assist customers, Canon has outlined a list of affected serial numbers in their service advisory, indicating that the impacted black camera bodies.
Owners of the affected R50 cameras with starting serial numbers starting with 19 through 23 qualify for the free inspection and repair service.
To utilize this complimentary service, users must create a customer account and register their camera, facilitating effective communication between Canon and those impacted and coordinating necessary repairs.
Importantly, the recall and repair window remains open through July 31, 2028.
Therefore, users currently not experiencing issues have ample time for Canon to diagnose any potential mode dial problems that may emerge in the future.
