Canon has entered the small form cinema camera market with the launch of the new EOS C50, a full-frame cinema camera designed to compete directly with the Sony FX3.
Equipped with a full-frame 7K image sensor and internal RAW recording capabilities at up to 60 frames per second, the C50 aims to deliver exceptional production quality.
Targeting mobile content creators and social media influencers, the Canon EOS C50 allows users to elevate their productions beyond smartphones and traditional mirrorless camera setups.

Weighing just one and a half pounds, it stands as Canon’s lightest and most compact cinema camera, while also offering still photo capture, making it a versatile tool for today’s dynamic filmmakers.
This camera is designed for small independent projects, one-person content creation, and larger production efforts.
It excels in documenting field projects, creating social media videos, covering sports events, electronic newsgathering, and more.

At the core of its design is a full-frame 7K Backside-Illuminated CMOS sensor that captures 12-bit Cinema RAW Light and Canon Log 2 at up to 60 frames per second.
With dual base ISO settings of 800 and 6400, and powered by Canon’s DIGIC DV 7 processor, the C50 becomes the company’s first compact cinema camera to offer 3:2 open gate recording.
It also supports XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S codecs, along with various 4K DCI formats and simultaneous capture crop options of 9:17, 9:16, or 1:1.
The camera includes an easy-to-use file naming system and folder structure that preserves metadata while recording in the popular MP4 format.
Additionally, it offers compatibility with the XC protocol for remote control over IP or WiFi, support for third-party USB-C Ethernet, integration with Frame.io Camera to Cloud, CF and SD card slots for dual video recording, and multi-camera control through Canon’s Multi Camera Control app.

With an optical design that includes one ultra-low dispersion (UD) element and one aspherical element to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations and an eleven-bladed lens aperture, the lens is tailored for portrait-style shooting and provides features such as cinematic bokeh, focus breathing control, and a fast F1.4 aperture.
