NAB 2017: ARRI AMIRA Gets Improved Multicam Functionality, 4K Output at 60p, Pre-Loaded LUT-based Looks and More

The latest Software Update Package (SUP) 5.0 brings some essential refinements to the existing Multicam Mode on the beloved ARRI AMIRA. The feature has proven over time to be an extremely useful option for a myriad of live broadcasts, music events, and other fast-paced, multi-camera productions across the world.

In essence, this simple and flexible interface allows creative professionals to remotely control the image parameters of multiple AMIRA cameras with virtually any transmission system while using an industry standard Remote Control Panel. Overall, this functionality could be a huge advantage on occasions when the camera body is physically out of the operator’s reach while being mounted on a crane, gimbal, Steadicam, or any other support system.

Besides that, the Multicam functionality on the ARRI AMIRA now comes along with a dual 6G UHD-SDI support that sufficiently improves the cameras’ SDI output data rate hence allowing external 4K UHD recording at frame rates up to 60 fps.

Furthermore, SUP 5.0 will allow AMIRA users to create custom looks based on 3D LUTs that can be loaded into the camera itself and also used in Multicam mode while keeping the ability to modify and fine-tune the image parameters with the RCP, just as in a standard workflow.

This set of new features along with the brand new ARRI Look Library launched with SUP 5.0 will make an entire catalog of varied looks available to AMIRA Multicam productions, allowing them to adopt an even more cinematic visual approach. In addition, users will be able to match multiple cameras much easier and faster by using equalized looks generated from color chart frame grabs.

Ultimately, the ARRI AMIRA Multicam feature can be utilized in conjunction with DTS transmission system components that have been particularly optimized for this mode as well as with a wide range of other third-party fiber solutions and wireless radio transmission systems.
