After the last year’s launch of the Fly Drive at NAB 2017, DJI and Seagate continue their successful collaboration by introducing another enticing product at CES 2018. In essence, the brand new LaCie 2TB DJI Copilot BOSS USB 3.1 Type-C external hard drive is a standalone backup storage solution with direct file ingestion that builds on the capabilities and functionality of the DJI Fly Drive.
Just like its predecessor, the DJI Copilot allows you to copy or transfer files from a micro SD card or Type-A USB connected device, but it also expands these capabilities by providing mobile-device charging and mobile file management.
All in all, the DJI Copilot seems to be the perfect fit for drone owners and aerial videographers, who need a portable and compact solution for offloading media out in the field without the need to carry around a computer along the way. The device provides up to 2TB of storage that should be sufficient to store 65 hours of 4K 30fps video or more than 20,000 RAW photos, according to Seagate.
Furthermore, DJI Copilot drive allows users to monitor transfer progress on its built-in LCD display. Plus, you can preview, rename, copy, move, and delete the captured footage directly on your smartphone or tablet via the Copilot BOSS app. Files can be copied directly from drones, memory cards, action cameras, DSLR cameras, phones, USB hard drives, USB flash drives, and more.
Of course, you can still hook up the drive to your Mac or PC running Mac OS X 10.10 or higher and Windows 10 or higher through any of the provided options while using Lightning, microUSB, or USB-C cables that are also included in the box. Additionally, there’s a USB Type-A port on board offering another convenient way to load content onto the drive as an alternative option.
