Meike Speeds Up its 12mm APS-C Manual Lens with new F2.0 Design

Even though the popular camera of choice with the mirrorless revolution has been full-frame cameras like the Canon R5 or the Nikon Z9, APS-C is still hanging in there as a popular camera for content creation. As such, new camera lenses are popping up all over the place.

Meike, for instance, not only sees the market growing, but they mean to be a leader in the APS-C category with new lenses that fit just about every APS-C mount on the market. And one of the fastest is the Meike 12mm F2.0 manual focus APS-C lens.

Meike was founded in 2005, creating photography accessories like flash attachments, camera cages, and camera battery grips.

With the goal of providing affordable equipment to photographers and content creators to unleash their creativity, the company has steadily grown with two locations in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Over the course of the next 17 years, the company has gradually expanded its catalog to include professional Cinema Lenses.

Aimed at making content creation more affordable, the Cinema primes they offer cost no more than $1200, with full sets of primes coming in at around $3,000.

Meike has also moved into the consumer photography lens market. The 12mm F2.0 is the second ultra wide angle lens at 12mm, and it’s slightly faster than their F2.8 model. But Meike also has lenses as wide as 3.5mm fisheyes.

With 12 lens elements, two that are aspherical, that are arranged in nine groups, the Meike 12mm f/2 has a minimum focusing distance of 20cm (about 8 inches) and an aperture range of F2-F16.

Complete specs:

  • Aperture Range: F2.0-F16
  • Focal Length:12mm
  • Filter Thread: 62mm
  • Weight: 277g
  • minimum focusing distance: 0.2M
  • Lens Structure: 9 groups of 12 elements including 2 aspherical lenses
  • Diagonal: 97

The APS-C lens will be available with Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Micro Four-Thirds, Nikon Z, and Sony E mounts, and are available now from Meike direct at a retail price of $189. Dirt cheap for a super fast wide angle prime, that’s for sure.

It’s likely that this lens will also replace the existing 12mm F2.8 since that lens has gone down in price to $169 to clear out existing stock. Both lenses are available at Meike.com.
