Blackmagic Releases SDI ATEM Switchers for Independent Live Streaming

Blackmagic has announced a new highly mobile family of ATEM live video switchers. The ATEM SDI family consists of three different video switchers, which can stream live video over Ethernet, plus record directly via USB.

Designed to be powerful and affordable, the ATEM-SDI line consists of three models: ATEM SDI, ATEM SDI Pro ISO, and ATEM SDI Extreme ISO.

The ATEM Switchers are based on Blackmagic’s successful ATEM Mini switcher, with support for live video switching in 1080p and 720p outputs.

The ATEM SDI is the base model, which supports live streaming with advanced Chroma keyers, full Fairlight Audio tools with support for 6-band parametric EQ, compressor tools, limiter, and more.

On the back are twin 3.5mm microphone inputs, a USB-C webcam output, and an ethernet connection. But the real connectors are the 4 SDI inputs and two customizable SDI outputs for multi-camera or video source connections.

In the midrange model, the ATEM SDI Pro ISO is similar to the ATEM SDI only it has onboard recording capabilities and broadcasting capabilities to YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Twitch, and other streaming services.

The feed can be recorded through a high-speed USB thumb drive or USB Hub for multiple copies or extended recording time in series.

The ATEM SDI Pro Extreme ISO, is the Cadillac of the ATEM SDI family, with twice as many SDI connections, totaling 8 3G-SDI inputs and 4 SDI outputs. It can record up to nine separate video streams in real-time with clean capture of eight, plus the main feed. There’s also live tally, stream, and recording status lights.

The ATEM SDI Pro ISO, and the ATEM SDI Extreme ISO, can also be connected to a smartphone through the USB-C port in order to stream live when out in the field. The connection can also serve as a backup to a proper ethernet connection, should the higher-speed broadband connection become unavailable.

All video and audio sources are recorded independently using H.264 and AAC, and provide an archival or master copy for editing the video stream to upload later.

All three models can automatically sync all input sources and match the switcher’s set video standard, and recorded files are converted into DaVinci Resolve project files, to make importing a breeze. There is also access through the ATEM Software on a laptop or PC for more granular control.

The ATEM SDI family is now available for preorder, with the ATEM-SDI starting at $345, while the ATEM SDI Pro ISO retails for $795, and the ATEM SDI Extreme ISO will set you back $1495.
