Sabrent’s Nano V2 External SSD is Larger and Faster Than the OG

Sabrent has announced a second-generation Rocket Nano External solid-state drive. The Nano V2 offers a larger storage capacity of up to 4 TB and promises file transfer of up to 1500 MB/s.

“The Nano V2 is optimized to take up as little space as possible, ready for travel in tough environments so you can always capture the best shots without bulky storage weighing you down,” states the Sabrent press release.

“Integrated health monitoring and advanced flash management work together to ensure your data is always protected.”

Pocket-sized, the Nano V2 is smaller than a credit card but slightly larger than version 1. The Nano V2 is designed to be robust with a rugged silicon cover and aircraft-grade aluminum alloy casing.

Moreover, while the company doesn’t publish an IP rating on its ability to repel dirt, dust, and moisture, the OG Rocket Nano has an IP rating of 67.

Its overall weight is 1.75 ounces. With dimensions of 2.85 by 1.3 by 0.6 inches, the Nano V2 can handle file transfer speeds of 8K video through a USB-C Gen 2×2 connection, though it isn’t Thunderbolt 3 supported.

Even though Sabrent stops short of publishing read/write speeds, version 2 is capable of file transfer burst speeds that are 50 percent faster than the original or 1500 MB/s.

The Nano V2 is capable of a variety of USB connections through additional cabling, including USB-C to USB-C and a USB-C to USB-A adapter cable.

The NanoV2 also supports a wide variety of computer operating systems, mobile OSs, and gaming consoles, meaning it can work transferring data to and from Windows PCs, Apple computers, as well as iOS and Android tablets and smartphones.

Sabrent says that data can also be transferred from a variety of gaming consoles for transferring “let’s play” gaming footage, as well as being designed to work with Valve’s Steam Deck streaming device.

Though Sabrent has yet to make retail pricing official, however, Amazon is listing the Rocket Nano V2 for around $120 for the 1TB model, $200 for the 2TB model, and the 4TB version will retail for $500.

Availability is to be determined, and those prices could be subject to change.
