Panasonic has officially unveiled the next generation of its S1 full-frame mirrorless camera, introducing two models: the Panasonic S1 II and the S1 II E.
Both models feature enhanced image sensors and can capture 6K30p video and still images in burst mode at speeds of up to 70 frames per second. However, key differences set them apart.

The Panasonic S1 II full-frame mirrorless camera features a partially stacked 24.1 MP image sensor, which allows it to capture 6K video at up to 30 frames per second.
It also excels in capturing blackout-free still images in burst mode at speeds of 70 frames per second.
The camera supports open-gate video shooting and incorporates AI-enhanced subject detection and tracking.
This model employs the same 779 Phase Hybrid Autofocus system that debuted in the S5 II, with additional refinements.
Noteworthy enhancements include improved AI subject detection and tracking, plus a new Urban Sports mode designed specifically for fast-paced action sports like skateboarding.
The S1 II showcases remarkable image stabilization with its five-axis in-body image stabilization system, rated for up to 8 stops. It also offers a high-resolution mode that can capture individual images at up to 96 MP.
Additional still image features include a Dynamic Range Boost option that extends low-light sensitivity beyond ISO50-204800 and support for Apple’s High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF).
Regarding video capabilities, the S1 II supports open-gate recording at 6K resolution up to 30 fps, or 5.1K at 60 fps. Users can capture high frame rates of up to 240 fps in 1080p HD.
The camera can record using a variety of codecs, including V-Log/V-Gamut, Arri’s LOG C3, and ProRes Raw internally, while also supporting Blackmagic RAW externally via HDMI outputs.
With the Dynamic Range Boost feature enabled, the camera achieves up to 15 stops of dynamic range.

The S1 II E, or Essentials edition, features a 24.1 MP backside-illuminated CMOS image sensor and can capture still images in burst mode at up to 30 fps.
It shares the same 6K30 open-gate recording capability in V-Log, providing up to 14 stops of dynamic range, while supporting C4K, 4K, 3.3K, and full HD with internal 4:2:2 10-bit recording.
Additionally, a new Cinemascope video format allows for capture in a 2.4:1 aspect ratio at up to 60 frames per second without cropping.
Both cameras come with dual recording media options, featuring CFExpress Type B and SD media card slots.
