Canon has recently announced a comprehensive firmware update scheduled to arrive by the end of July 2025, which will deliver significant enhancements to its Cinema EOS and PTZ camera lines.
The update brings critical new features and workflow improvements to the EOS C400 and C80 cinema cameras, alongside upgrades to Canon’s full PTZ lineup, including the CR-N700, CR-N500, CR-N300, CR-N100, and the outdoor CR-X300.

New Cinema Camera Features
At the center of the announcement are the EOS C400 and C80, two cinema cameras already favored for their versatility.
With the new update, both models gain a revamped Peripheral Border Display (also known as Display Level 2), which now displays a comprehensive overview of camera settings including sensor mode, resolution, recording codecs per card slot, gamma curve, color space, image stabilization status, and electronic level orientation – all at a glance – streamlining on-set monitoring and reducing the need to navigate internal menus.

Also new is the ability to play back Cinema RAW Light clips with distortion and chromatic aberration correction applied directly in-camera.
This feature allows camera operators and DITs to confirm image corrections on location without the delay of offloading footage to a computer.
Moreover, both the C400 and C80 can now output Canon’s CV Protocol simultaneously to multiple devices.
This enables several systems to access lens metadata via Canon’s CV Metadata Extraction plugin, enhancing efficiency in virtual production and post environments.
The update also significantly expands the number of custom LUTs that can be stored in-camera.
Instead of a previous cap of 20, users can now register up to 256.
For gimbal and tripod work, the ability to pause Digital Image Stabilization mid-recording allows for more precise control during locked-off shots.
Rounding out these improvements, the C400 also introduces hybrid autofocus functionality, allowing camera operators to adjust focus while Tracking AF is active manually.
Once manual input ends, the camera automatically resumes tracking, a boost to dynamic shooting conditions.

Live Streaming PTZ Camera Updates
Canon’s PTZ cameras are also receiving several robust updates designed to improve reliability during live streaming productions.
Both SRT and RTMP protocols now support automatic reconnection, minimizing downtime if the signal is interrupted.
SRT streams can also now be configured to begin transmission immediately upon camera power-up, simplifying hands-off streaming operations.
For USB Camera Mode, the CR-N100 and CR-N300 now support PTZ control over IP, increasing their utility in conferencing and broadcast scenarios.
The addition of an “Area Zoom” feature allows users to draw a bounding box within the control interface, prompting the camera to reframe on that region automatically.
Meanwhile, the CR-N700 firmware introduces a simplified interface to toggle between frame-rate looks – 60, 30, or 24 fps – without needing to adjust output settings.
Enhancements to Canon’s Auto Tracking application include improved subject tracking accuracy, particularly with fast-moving targets, and, in the paid version, support for multi-subject tracking.
A new face orientation tool dynamically adjusts the composition based on the direction the subject is facing.
Canon’s RC-IP1000 controller will also benefit from the update, gaining compatibility with the EOS C80, improved preset management, and support for standard protocols via serial ports.
Additionally, Canon’s Multi-Camera Control iOS app now offers full support for all indoor PTZ models and the CR-X300.
Installation
Lastly, firmware installation is also being streamlined.
Moving forward, users will be able to check for, download, and install updates directly from the camera’s web interface, reducing setup time.
Together, these firmware updates represent a substantial upgrade to Canon’s professional imaging ecosystem, responding directly to user feedback and on-set production needs.
The updates are scheduled for release by the end of July 2025. More information is available at usa.canon.com.
