OM System Unveils OM-5 Mark II with New Features Borrowed by Higher Models

The heir apparent of Olympus has announced the launch of the new OM System mirrorless camera, the OM-5 Mark II.

This model captures the essence of Olympus while introducing several innovative features, including a computational photography option, creative and video shooting modes, and a redesigned menu system.

“At OM SYSTEM, we believe creators deserve tools that support their vision without adding bulk or complexity,” the product announcement states.

“The OM-5 Mark II is a camera built on trust — refined for those who explore more, carry less, and demand real performance from their gear.”

The OM-5 Mark II retains several key features from its predecessor, including a 20.4 MP Micro Four Thirds Live MOS image sensor and the TruePic IX processor.

It incorporates a 121-point hybrid autofocus system that combines contrast and phase detection, along with a new computational photography button that harnesses AI to enhance the depth-of-field.

This button offers control over live neutral density settings, HDR, high-resolution mode, focus stacking, and more.

Additionally, the camera features the redesigned menu system found in the OM-1, making it easier to navigate and adjust settings.

New shooting modes include a Night Vision mode that enhances dynamic range in low light and a handheld assist mode for better stability during long exposures.

The hybrid autofocus system allows the camera to identify and track subjects using face and eye detection, maintaining focus even in low light conditions with the new Starry Sky AF mode.

For aspiring filmmakers, the OM-5 Mark II offers creative video profiles, such as OM Cinema 1 and 2, which provide a more cinematic look.

The camera also benefits from 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization to support shooting while on the move.

It features a more ergonomic grip for secure handling. Other built-in features include a USB-C power and data connection, a 2.36 million-dot eye-level OLED electronic viewfinder, a 3.0″ 1.04 million-dot vari-angle touchscreen, an SD media card slot, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
