Unlocking PTZ and NDI: RØDECaster Video Gets a Feature Boost

RØDE has expanded its support for the RØDECaster Video streaming console with a new firmware update that introduces NDI connectivity for live streaming, production, and recording.

This update also includes PT camera control and several advanced switching tools.

Key features of NDI streaming include high-quality, low-latency video, which is transmitted with minimal delay while maintaining high fidelity.

NDI operates over existing local area networks (LANs) through an Ethernet connection, making it easy to integrate into current infrastructure.

Additionally, NDI supports bidirectional communication, allowing both the sending and receiving of video and audio signals. This capability facilitates remote control, talkback, and other functionalities.

The technology provides software integration and is compatible with a wide range of software and hardware products, including OBS, vMix, and various cameras and video switchers.

NDI is also cost-effective, as it leverages standard networks, reducing the need for expensive specialized hardware and cabling.

With support for up to four video-over-IP inputs and a single output, productions can now deliver professional-grade video from cameras, iOS devices, and other NDI-compatible sources at no extra cost.

Moreover, firmware version 1.20 introduces support for connecting and controlling various Pan Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) cameras, with similar functions available for these cameras.

The update includes advanced keying tools, such as Luma Key for removing backgrounds and overlaying lower thirds, logos, and titles, along with key masking for cutting out keyed areas and removing unwanted parts of an image.

Users can also overlay picture-in-picture functions and graphics, as well as apply softer out-of-focus effects, shadows, and rounded corners for scene layers and overlays.

The update supports audio-linked auto-switching when paired with the RØDECaster Pro II and RØDECaster Duo, linking specific channels to camera angles for automatic switching based on who is speaking.

Finally, it allows for the separation of HDMI and NDI outputs, providing greater control and monitoring of audio inputs on muted channels.

Version 1.20 of the RØDECaster Video firmware update is available for download and installation through the RØDECaster Desktop App.
