DZOFilm has just introduced the Vespid Prime II cinema lens series, a second-generation lineup aimed at improving resolution and color accuracy while reducing chromatic aberration and lens flares.
This series features a constant T1.9 aperture and a focal length range of 18mm to 105mm, making it compatible with large format sensors up to 46.5mm, and it is suitable for medium format platforms as well.

The Vespid Prime II lineup includes six prime lenses: 18mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 105mm. Each lens provides a 46.5mm image circle and maintains a consistent T1.9 aperture speed rating.
The aspherical design specifications are as follows: the 18mm lens contains 15 elements in 12 groups with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:7.6; the 24mm has 14 elements in 13 groups, achieving a ratio of 1:8; the 35mm includes 13 elements in 9 groups with a ratio of 1:5.5;
the 50mm lens features 12 elements in 9 groups and a ratio of 1:8; the 85mm has 11 elements in 8 groups, achieving a ratio of 1:7.5; and the 105mm lens also contains 12 elements in 8 groups with a maximum ratio of 1:7.6.

All lenses in this series feature a 0.8 gear pitch, a manual focus range of 300 degrees, and manual iris control options between 65 and 68 degrees.
They include a 10-bladed aperture that produces smooth, round bokeh. PL mount users will appreciate the consistent 52mm flange distance across all six lenses.
The lenses weigh between 766g and 833g, depending on the focal length, and maintain a constant length of 80mm (3.15 inches) with a PL mount.
Each lens has a standard front diameter of 80mm and an M77 filter size. Focus distances range from 0.25m (0.8 feet) to 0.9m (3 feet) at both ends.

In terms of performance, DZOFilm claims that the Vespid Prime II lenses deliver superior optical quality and improved usability.
They provide high resolution that meets today’s 8K cinematic standards, along with accurate colors and skin tones, while effectively reducing chromatic aberration and lens flares. Here are a few sample images:
These lenses support large format sensors, including the RED V-Raptor VV, ARRI Alexa LF, and Sony Venice, and they are also compatible with select medium format camera systems.
Their lightweight design makes them ideal for handheld gimbal rigs, drones, and gimbaled camera setups like the DJI Ronin 4D.
