Sony has introduced its first G Master Macro Prime Lens, the FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS.
This lens delivers extreme close-up views while ensuring the advanced optical clarity, image stabilization, and ergonomic handling that define the G Master series.
With a maximum magnification of 1.4x, the FE 100mm GM allows photographers to capture stunning close-ups with vivid detail and texture, revealing elements often difficult to see with the naked eye.

Additionally, with an optional teleconverter, users can achieve up to 2.8x magnification, enabling them to get even closer while working from a comfortable distance without disturbing their subjects.
This feature makes the lens an excellent choice for shooting documentaries in the wild.
Designed with 17 lens elements arranged in 13 groups, the FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS incorporates two XA (Extreme Aspherical) lenses and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements.
This design delivers high-resolution detail from the center to the edges of the image while effectively reducing chromatic aberrations and fringing.
The lens also features Sony’s proprietary Nano AR Coating II, enhancing image clarity and minimizing lens flare and ghosting in bright, backlit conditions.

Equipped with an eleven-bladed circular aperture, the 100mm F2.8 produces beautiful, creamy bokeh, a signature characteristic of the G Master series. Users can quickly adjust aperture settings using the dedicated lens aperture ring.
For extreme close-up focusing, the lens boasts four dynamic linear motors that operate quietly, achieving autofocus speeds up to 1.9 times faster than standard macro lenses.
It includes a full-time DMF (Direct Manual Focus) switch for instant manual focus using the focus ring, and users can toggle between autofocus and manual focus with the Focus Mode switch.
The lens also features a “Sliding Focus Ring” or FULL MF mode, linked to the distance and magnification scales.
Finally, the lens integrates Sony’s Optical Steady Shot (OSS) image stabilization system and Body Lens Coordinated Control, providing maximum effectiveness for handheld shots.
While Sony has not disclosed the specific number of stops of image stabilization, users can easily disable the Steady Shot system with a switch.
