Samsung NX1 Firmware 1.2 Adds 23.98/24p in 4K UHD, Adjustable Audio Levels and Gamma Curves

Earlier in January, we posted about the rumoured new firmware update for the 4K Samsung NX1, and now that firmware update is a reality. Samsung just released firmware update 1.2 for the NX1, which adds some significant features to the camera such as 23.98, and 24p in UHD and 1080p, as well as adjustable audio levels during recording. With the release of the beast of a firmware update, which you can download here – about 280MB zip file, adding the above features, NX1 shooters are already eager to try out the new features. Here’s a video by Arthur Taylor shot with firmware 1.2:

There’s an interesting discussion over at DVXUser about the possibility of the MagicLantern community getting involved with the NX1. A link to a private thread on the ML forums was posted (not accessible publicly) which opened the discussion of a possible 2K raw downsampling to internal SD cards, something which may or may not be possible, but regardless will help a lot with the rolling shutter at 4K, and make the NX1 even more awesome.

Let’s just hope that happens. We’ll keep you in the loop as to further developments with regards to that. I am really starting to like the NX1 more and more after this update and with the possibility of a “mini-NX1” coming soon in the form of the NX500 with 2.5K recording on board (fingers crossed) makes the offer even more tempting.
