NAB 2016: Edelkrone Announced FocusONE – a Redesigned Follow Focus System for Just €175/$199

NAB 2016: Edelkrone Announced FocusONE – a Redesigned Follow Focus System for Just €175/$199

Vlady Radev April 15, 2016 Blog 1 Comment

Edelkrone, the innovative company, mainly known for its smartly designed and user-friendly filmmaking solutions has just introduced another affordable tool for independent filmmakers and videographers alike. The FocusONE follow focus system provides slick and robust design and it’s optimised for extremely precise focus pulling with the Edelkrone’s proprietary marker-free setup where the marking disk faces the operator, providing more convenience and further precision when pulling focus. The FocusONE seems to be the successor of the popular FocusONE PRO follow focus system that is currently discontinued and it’s no longer part of the Edelkrone’s product line-up. Let’s have a quick look at the promo video of the FocusONE system below.

Obviously, Edelkrone has found a way to reduce the price of the genuine FocusONE PRO system with almost $100 providing the same level of quality while maintaining identical design and precise performance.

The main differences I can spot right off the bat, however, is the lack of the tiny reversing gear that was incorporated onto the drive gear in the FocusONE Pro. The colour of the marking wheel is also changed to black as well as there are no incremental marking points available any longer unlike the older version of the marking disk, except for the main index mark.

Besides that, the FocusONE is still a single rod based follow focus unit that mounts the marking disk between the hand wheel and the drive gear. The design of the new unit consist of CNC machined aluminium with delrin components and stainless steel screws that allow users to adjust the hand wheel’s position without affecting the unit’s performance.

In other words, you’ll be able to adjust the hand wheel for your comfort along with the ability to pull focus from above or below the camera without forcing your hand into an uncomfortable position or needing to use an available focus whip.

European customers can already pre-order the unit directly from Edlekrone’s website for €174.99 (excluding VAT). The FocusONE should be available at Edlekrone’s authorised resellers in the second half of May 2016.

Along with FocusONE at NAB 2016, the company will also showcase another four new products – JibPlus, StandPlus, RigOne and Povie. If you want to learn more about the Edelkrone’s latest entries, head over to the company’s official website here.
