Running a manufacturing business is not an easy task; not that I can speak from experience, but nevertheless I can imagine some of the hurdles and hoops especially smaller businesses go through. SmallHD recently posted a video, in which CEO and Co-Founder Wes Phillips gave assurance his company is bouncing back from a major setback – a large warehouse fire, which occurred at the end of April right after NAB where Small announced a new Focus monitor lineup. The fire caused millions of dollars damage to their inventory and delayed shipments for many customers.
SmallHD may be bigger than when they started, and even though they were acquired by the Vitec Group, a large UK company that also owns many brands you know such as Manfrotto, Teradek, Vinten, Sachtler, O’Connor and even Joby tripods, at their heart they still are a family-ran business in North Carolina.
As a long time SmallHD monitor user and current SmallHD Focus owner, I’ve always liked their products and most of all their customer approach and appearance as a company – they are not some huge, faceless corporation, such as the one that made your camera, (well, maybe with only a single exception – RED), instead they started as filmmakers, as a lot of us.

Needless to say, I felt for them when I received the SmallHD update email and I saw their update video detailing their recent warehouse fire, which resulted in a huge loss of inventory, I had to share it with you:
Unlike most companies out there, especially the larger ones, who would have released some sort of a vague press release a year or two after the event, SmallHD made a heartfelt and to the point video with their CEO explaining what happened and how they are recovering thanks to the efforts of their incredible staff and team working for them.
