Aputure have been making amazing LED lights for indie filmmakers for some time now, but probably the most exciting light I saw last year at any trade show was their Amaran MW mini LED that is super-bright and also can go underwater. I saw it at IBC 2018 (you can see our interview from the show floor a bit below in the post) back in September last year in Amsterdam, and at that point final specs and pricing were not yet finalized, however just days ago Aputure officially launched their most powerful and rugged mini LED light to date!
The Aputure AMARAN MW is quite an insanely powerful light for its miniature size. The new Amaran MW features a massive 6000 lux output (making it twice as bright as the equally compact and rugged Aputure MX), 5x built-in light special effects, a 24hrs non-stop battery life all contained in a compact metal housing with the ability to go 10 meters underwater; this makes the AL-MW incredibly versatile LED for those daredevils that like to live and film amazing locations on the edge (and mostly underwater).
The Amaran AL-MW is also aggressively priced for the incredible punch it packs at $209 USD and around £229, respectively, in the UK.
