IRIX Introduces 11mm T4.3 Ultra-Wide Cine Lens for Full Frame Cameras

Korean/Swiss lens maker IRIX just expanded their Cine Line with the inclusion of the 11mm T 4.3 lens. Right on the heels of their Irix Cine 150mm T3.0 Macro announcement, the company rolls out another excellent piece of glass aiming at all aspiring cinematographers out there looking for some high-quality ultra-wide LF cinema lenses.

The unit will provide several cine-standard features as well as some clever notable new ones, so let’s take a closer look.

In a nutshell, the Irix 11mm T 4.3 seems to be another quite appealing Full Frame LF ultra-wide non-fisheye lens aiming to rival other well-known competitors such as the Sigma 14mm T2.0, the Zeiss 15mm T2.9 CP.3, the Canon 14mm T3.1, and of course, ARRI’s upcoming 12mm T1.8.

The lens optical design looks identical to the 11mm f4.0 stills counterpart comprising of 16 elements in 10 groups with four high refractive index, three aspherical, and two extra-low-dispersion elements delivering high-quality images with minimal distortion.

Furthermore, the Irix 11mm T 4.3 sports 43.3mm image circle that’s specifically designed to fit perfectly the sensor size of Large Format cinema cameras with a 95mm diameter on the front for multiple cine accessories. It’s also worth mentioning that the mechanical build quality of the lens is expected to be similar to that of the 150mm sibling.

Just like the 150mm T3.0 Macro, the Irix 11mm T4.3 features sleek housing with a Magnesium Alloy chassis and a semi-matte black painted finish. There’s also a removable 1/4-20 support foot included along with a detachable and reversible lens hood using the Irix’s unique Magnetic Mount System.

On top of that, the 11mm T 4.3 features a Multi Start Thread focusing mechanism that provides quiet and precise focusing with focus rotation of 180 degrees. The lens is also relatively compact and light weighing in at about 2.5 lbs.
