It turns out that getting a flip screen on your Pocket 4K or 6K camera is a relatively simple and straightforward process and now popular accessory maker Tilta is about to make it completely user-friendly as well with their BMPCC 4K/6K Screen Modification Kit. The combo allows you to do the swap right off the bat and doesn’t require you to make any permanent changes or damages to your camera.
In fact, we have already reported about this solution back in June, but it seems that now Tilta is taking it to the next level by providing users with all the tools necessary to do the installation in a home environment instead of sending the camera back and forth to the Chinese manufacturer that came up with the solution in the first place.
Tilta are also planning to release a comprehensive video tutorial that will walk customers through the whole process. The modification is supposed to be fully reversible and it shouldn’t affect your camera warranty whatsoever.
Once you install the kit, you’ll be able to fully articulate the screen and even use your Pocket 4K/6K camera into selfie mode. Unfortunately, the image will be upside down as the BMPCC 4K/6K software doesn’t have a flip image option.
Other than that, Tilta has reversed the USB-C input of the camera so that you can add an additional M.2 SSD in the extra space that opens up behind the flip screen itself.
The screen modification kit also replaces the pesky port covers of the BMPCC 4K and 6K cameras with a new carbon fiber one that provides additional string-secured plugs to close up and protect unused ports. Currently, Tilta is working on adding another USB-C input since the original is now being used for the M.2 drive.
Last but not least, the modified screen will be compatible with all of the accessories for the BMPCC 4K and 6K Tilta’s cages alongside a brand new to be released sunhood that will also support the flipping screen. The kit should be available in November retailing for $329.
