Sony Alpha shooters will be more than happy to know that Sony have just announced the widest full-frame prime lens in their E-Mount lineup.
The brand new FE 20mm F1.8 G lens consists of 14 elements in 12 lens groups, including two advanced aspherical elements and three Extra-low Dispersion glass elements for the suppression of chromatic aberration and delivery of high corner-to-corner image quality. The 9-bladed aperture, on the other hand, will produce smooth, round bokeh.
The brand new lens sports two extreme dynamic Linear Motors delivering fast, precise and quiet autofocusing for both stills and video shooting. Of course, you can use the Sony FE 20mm f1.8 paired with your favorite Sony APS-C camera as well, where it would be 30mm in terms of 35mm equivalent focal length.
Other than that, the iris can be de-clicked for smooth iris adjustments, and it also has an additional button that can be configured in the camera.
The Sony FE 20mm f1.8 is dust and moisture resistant, plus it comes with a Nano AR Coating to minimize surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions. The minimum focus distance of the lens is only 19cm and if you want to use filters, there’s a 67mm thread on the front.
Overall, the lens is pretty compact and lightweight weighing in at only 373g (0.82lb) while measuring in at only 73.5×84.7 mm (3 × 3 3/8 in.) which makes it ideal to balance with a wide range of gimbals.
