Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 May Be Delayed Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

According to Canon Rumors, the production of the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 may be delayed due to supply chain issues caused by the Coronavirus outbreak. The CR article states that currently, Canon’s manufacturing capacity is significantly lower than normal which inevitably will lead to obvious issues with production numbers that won’t meet the customers’ demand once both units hit the shelves.

As a result, Canon is considering whether they should be releasing both cameras as planned (with the Canon EOS R5 initially scheduled to begin shipping in July, and the Canon EOS R6 rumored to start shipping in June) or wait until the fall, likely October 2020 to release both cameras in decent quantity.

All in all, that’s another unfortunate news for video shooters who are eager to get the forthcoming EOS R5 and R6 in their hands as soon as possible.

Amid the global Coronavirus outbreak, such announcements should be more than expected. Apparently, 2020 will bring a plethora of challenges to the global economy and it seems that the mirrorless camera market will also be impacted. The big question is to what degree.
