Canon’s EOS Webcam Utility Software for Streaming Video is Out of Beta

It seems that Canon is responding to the needs of social creators who are looking to stream high-quality video from home with the official release of Canon’s EOS Webcam Utility Software for Windows which is now available for free to the public.

In a nutshell, this is a software solution that works with a range of Canon EOS cameras to capture video in place of your computer or laptop webcam. Currently, there is still no Mac version of the EOS Webcam Utility, even though it’s on the radar according to Canon.

The release comes after a beta period that boasted more than 700K downloads, proving that people are in search of solutions that help them achieve high-quality video from home (or wherever they may be) with their Canon EOS camera.

Updates from the Beta version include:

  • Support for a total of 42 EOS ILC and PowerShot cameras, including the new EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras (up from 25 supported cameras in the beta version).
  • Expansion of support to additional streaming platforms including YouTube Live, Discord, Slack and Facebook Live.
  • Worldwide availability (the beta was contained to North American consumers)
  • New functionality to record a high-quality video file onto the memory card in their camera while video conferencing or streaming

Here are all supported camera models you can use with Canon’s EOS Webcam Utility Software at the moment:

All of these additions were motivated by feedback from the community of beta users. Kudos to Canon for listening closely to fine-tune a solution that meets the creative and production challenges presented by the moment.
