Turn Your Android Phone into a Camera Monitor with Accsoon M1

The chief rap on Android phones for content creators is that they don’t really help much in video production. But gradually, over time, the Android platform’s open-source byways have provided opportunities to use mobile devices as filmmakers have always wanted.

Known for its wireless video transmission devices, Accsoon, has developed a new battery-powered smartphone camera clamp that not only charges your mobile device but turns it into an HDMI field monitor for controlling your camera and even streaming live on location. Users can even overlay a custom 3D LUT stored on the mobile device.

The Accsoon M1 UVC to HDMI mobile phone mount is powered by a Sony NP-F battery, which provides phantom power to your Android phone, as well as the M1 itself. The M1 can stream 1080p/60 video from your camera to your Android phone via HDMI through an HDMI-USB-C cable, but will also support a separate USB-C connection.

The pass-through design also enables users to record directly to the smartphone and camera concurrently. Live streaming is also available through your mobile device and can support RTMP platforms such as YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Instagram, Twitch, and even TikTok.

Other ports include two 7.4v DC outputs for supplying power to other accessories you may have on board. The M1 has a cold shoe mount for adding on a video light, microphone, or even wireless transmitter on top.

There’s also a 1/4-20 mount to attach the M1 directly to your camera or a tripod. The M1 connects to Android phones only (sorry iPhone users) and can accommodate sizes up to 6.5” or 90mm wide.

Once connected and mounted, the video signal is passed along to your Android device via the Accsoon SEE App, which also provides several supporting features including RGB, Histogram, waveform, Zebra stripping, False color, and even Focus assist, which can adjust focus on supported cameras by simply touching the screen on your Android phone.
