Moment’s New Anamorphic Adapter Makes Any Lens Cinematic

Known chiefly for its ability to make smartphone video more cinematic with add-on lenses and accessories, Moment has created a 1.33x lens adapter that will make any camera lens an anamorphic, widescreen image.

The Moment 1.33x Anamorphic adapter attaches to any lens, be it modern or vintage, and provides that classic widescreen anamorphic look at a fraction of the cost of regular anamorphic lenses.

The 1.33x squeeze will deliver a widescreen anamorphic aspect ratio of 2.39 to 1.

In addition to that widescreen aspect ratio that anamorphic lenses give, the adapter also provides other subtle effects such as horizontal flares, subtle distortion, and a gentle roll-off in sharpness.

The flare coating provides a cinematic gold flare, and the lens focus can get as close as just under 28 inches (.7 meters).

The lens adapter has a 67mm mounting thread, and users can employ the step-up and step-down rings to adjust the fit of the adapter lenses with 49mm to 82mm filter threads.

Once on, a lens alignment is performed by a simple touch of a button to calibrate the lens into its proper anamorphic position.

Moment says that the butter zone for focal lengths is between 35mm and 100mm for a Super35 mm image sensor, or 50mm to 100mm or even higher when shooting in full frame.

Moment also points out that the adapter design lends itself ideally to vintage camera lenses, which can open up a wide variety of creative choices.

“On vintage lenses, the adapter blends our take on classic anamorphic with the endless variations of looks that you get from vintage glass,” says the press release.

“Blending classic anamorphic with the character of vintage glass gives you unlimited options for creating epic and signature looks for your project.”

Currently on Kickstarter for backing, the Moment 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter is available at an early bird price starting at $999 until July 21st.

There are currently only about 50 adapters left at this price, after which, the price will edge up slightly to $1099. Users can also get an optional VND filter for the adapter and save $99.

Shipping is expected by December of 2022, or maybe even earlier if production can get up and running soon enough.
