RED has announced what they are calling an “enhanced” line of enhanced V-Raptor XL DSMC3 cinema cameras, which they claim pushes the boundaries of its 8K image sensor.
The new camera sports an all-in-one design, with internal ND filters, wireless genlock, and timecode, and integrated V and Gold mount battery plates for a wide variety of power options.

Like the previous generation V-Raptor, the XL features a large 35.4MP multi-format 8K and Super35 6K CMOS sensor with 17+ stops of dynamic range, capable of recording in either REDCODE Raw or ProRes up to 120 frames per second.
The XL has a native PL mount and supports phase detection autofocus (PDAF), plus there is an optional EF mount for supporting EF and EF-S cinema lenses.
Moreover, the XL includes an internal electronic ND filter with a range of two to seven stops, adjustable in 1/3, 1/2, and 1 stop intervals for precise lighting adjustments.
With wireless communications, the XL can also offer 1080po live streaming and transmission of wireless genlock and timecode when wanting to keep the camera rig cable free.

In addition to the native V and Gold Mount plates built into the XL, other power options include 12-volt and 24-volt outputs, two 3A combined D-TAP outputs, three 2-pin outputs of multiple voltages on the rear, and one 3-pin 3A Fischer output on the front of the camera.
Video outputs include DSMC3 Touch 7” LCD monitor connectors, three 12G-SDI with 6G/3G/1.5G-SDI modes, and one 3G/1.5G-SDI output, and the 12G/6G-SDI ports can send up to DCI 4K60 resolution to high-end monitors.
The camera can also transmit genlock, timecode, and other metadata through physical control ports, along with five-pin audio input ports, dual microphone ports, and wired control via USB Type C connectors.

The V-RaptorXL also supports a wide variety of new accessory options including the EF Mount, a riser plate, top handle, top and bottom 15mm LWS Rod support brackets, and REDVOLT 12-24V V-Mount and Gold Mount batteries.
The V-Raptor XL also comes in two different production packs, which contain either the V-mount or Gold mount brain, the DSMC3 RED Touch 7″ LCD monitor, four REDVOLT batteries, two PRO CFexpress 2TB cards, a CFexpress card reader, an XL Top Handle with extensions, an XL riser plate, top and bottom 15mm LWS support brackets, a 5-pin to dual XLR adapter, an 18″ RMI cable, and a RED Touch LCD hood.
RED is also including a standard 2-year warranty, with the option of purchasing one of two different extended warranties during the initial warranty period, or thereafter.
Preorders are now being taken starting at $49, 995 or $46,500 without batteries. The brain only can also be picked up starting at $39,500. Shipping is expected later this month.
