Tamron Introduces 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD for Fuji X-Mount Cameras

Tamron has announced that its successful 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD E-mount zoom lens will now be coming to Fujifilm’s X-mount camera platform. The full frame lens design will have an effective range of 225-750mm on the mirrorless APS-C platform.

Extremely compact for a lens of that focal range, the 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057) will have an overall length of 8.3 inches and a diameter of 93mm.

The lens will extend to a maximum length of 11.2 inches at the extreme end while its weight is 4.1 pounds (1.9 kilograms) with the Arca-Swiss compatible lens foot included or 3.8 pounds (1.7 kilograms) without. There is also an 82mm front filter thread.

The lens has 25 glass elements arranged in 16 groups, including one extra-low dispersion element, five low dispersion elements, and two hybrid aspherical elements.

The elements are coated in BBAR-G2 to minimize lens flare and ghosting, while the outside element is coated in fluorine to repel dust, water, and fingerprints.

The design also incorporates a seven-bladed rounded aperture, which will keep the iris perfectly circular to two stops from its maximum aperture.

The layout of the 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD provides for a manual focusing ring closest to the mount, and the large zoom ring on the farther end. The lens has a 75-degree zoom ring which can move through the entire focal length with a single turn.

The lens also uses Tamron’s VXD linear high-speed autofocus motor, which Tamron says will provide responsive and sharp focusing for action-oriented activities such as sports and capturing wildlife. The motor is also extremely quiet, reducing noise when shooting video.

The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 23.6 inches (59.9cm) at the wide end and 70.9 inches (180cm) at the far end of the telephoto range. Moreover, Tamron employs a Vibration Compensation technique for maintaining optical image stabilization.

Tamron also has a focus lock switch which can prevent the lens’ zoom ring from slipping while the camera is stored in a camera bag, a focus limited switch, focus mode switch, image stabilization on/off switch, and IS mode switch, all for complete control of the lens while active or inert.

The lens also enjoys a moisture-resistant, all-weather construction to further combat the elements when out in the field.

Tamron lists the 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD for Fujifilm’s X-Mount at a retail price of $1,499.00, and it will ship on October 13, 2022.
