Meike Introduces New 25mm F0.95 Wide-Angle APS-C Lens for Sony E-Mount Cameras

Meike has expanded the reach of their 25mm F0.95 wide-angle lens by adding an APS-C model for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, with more options on the way.

The Meike 25mm F0.95 APS-C Manual large aperture camera lens has 11 elements in nine groups, but it isn’t clear if there are any aspherical or low-dispersion lens elements in the design.

Traditionally, Meike is mum on details as to what the elements are in their overall design. Meike does say that the 25mm F0.95 offers a rounded bokeh due to a 13-bladed aperture, with a peak aperture of F16.

The 25mm F0.95 APS-C lens offers a full-frame equivalent of 38mm and will provide a wide angle of view of 59.3x52x35.4 degrees for the APS-C image circle, and 47.6×38.8×29.5 degrees on Micro Four Thirds.

The lens measures nearly ten inches long (.25 m) and weighs about 1.3 pounds (600g). There is also a front filter thread of 62mm.

This short and relatively lightweight design makes this lens ideal for landscapes and portraits and will have solid low-light performance and background separation.

Unfortunately, however, Meike hasn’t published any updated sample images to show how well the lens performs in these conditions.

The lens is fully manual, so it does not have any electronic circuitry for transmitting metadata or for making any autofocus or aperture adjustments.

The talk of Canon issuing cease and desist orders to third-party lens manufacturers may have a lot to do with this limitation and could be creating an emerging trend amongst lens designers who can’t interface with Canon’s proprietary electronic communication scheme without being an authorized lens manufacturer.

However, this does not extend to mounting technologies, and as such, Meike will offer an RF-S and M-Mount APS-C option.

The suggested retail price of the Meike 25mm F/0.95 E-mount lens is $369.99 and it is available now with “immediate shipping.”

Other mounts are planned for later this month that will support Fuji X, Canon EOS M and RF, and even Micro four-thirds camera platforms.
