RED DIGITAL CINEMA has announced its new wireless RED Connect Module for V-Raptor and V-Raptor XL Cinema Cameras. The Connect module will provide support for 8K video with real-time streaming over IP to the Raptor’s Camera Control Unit.
RED Connect, users will be able to stream 8K RAW R3D camera files at up to 120 FPS or 4K at up to 240 FPS from V-Raptor Cinema Cameras with high-speed 10Gbps data connections. The RED Connect system provides Genlock and timecode synchronization of multiple cameras using PTP.

“Live streaming of full-quality R3Ds over IP at every resolution and framerate, combined with RED’s sensor capabilities, creates an entirely new paradigm for content creation and broadcast,” said Jeff Goodman, RED Digital Cinema vice president of Product Management.

Moreover, RED Connect system supports 8K video streaming for virtual production as well, along with live XR protocol. The module attaches securely to the V-Raptor camera via a V-mount interface and connects to the CFexpress media slot to create a high-speed data connection.
The Connect system also supports VR with systems from COSM, and Media.Monks and Nvidia to create an immersive virtual video with uncompressed 8K and stereo lensing.
“The opportunity to leverage uncompressed 8K end-to-end presents a tremendous opportunity for broadcasters, filmmakers, and immersive video in particular,” noted Lewis Smithingham, Media.Monks SVP of Innovation. “Uncompressed 8K delivers on the promise of VR, and produces a sense of presence never experienced before.”
RED Connect also allows for real-time AI processing using RED’s software development kit through NVIDIA’s professional-grade GPUs for graphic-intensive workflows with SMPTE 2110 implementation with extremely low latency of just one to two frames.

Pricing and Availability
The RED Connect Module is priced starting at $14,995 with a single-year annual streaming license for $5995 and a perpetual license for $14,995.00. RED is also planning a one-month license for users to purchase for specific projects and broadcasts, but there is no word on pricing for this option just yet.
RED will be demoing the RED Connect module at the 2023 National Association of NAB show in Las Vegas, including live streaming of 8K60P to VR headsets enabled by Microsoft and Meta at the Microsoft booth (#W1529).
