SanDisk Claims World’s Fastest microSD with New Media Card Announcement

SanDisk has summited the top of the media card pyramid with what it claims to be the world’s fastest high-capacity microSD media card on the market.

The SanDisk Ultra PLUS 1.5 TB UHS1 microSD card can reach sustained read/write speeds of up to 150 MB/s under specific conditions.

Though the SanDisk Ultra PLUS 1.5 TB UHS-I supports use in laptops, smartphones and tablets, it also supports higher-resolution still images and videos and promises to be the ideal media card for capturing 8K video.

With write speeds of up to 150 MB/s, the company states the card can capture Ultra PLUS-high definition video with no dropped frames.

However, there is a catch. The SanDisk 1.5 TB UHS-I must be paired with a SanDisk MobileMate USB 3.0 microSD card reader to achieve that speed.

This means that capturing native video through a camera or drone will be at a lower capture rate.

Even with that proviso, there’s no denying that sustained speeds using the V10 standard are achievable, and even if the card falls short of the card’s ideal claims, it’s sure to be of benefit to action camera and drone shooters looking to capture at the highest possible resolution.

For smartphones, however, the speed is less of a concern than the capacity. But with mobile camera sensors approaching the 8K threshold, a microSD card that can support it will surely be of benefit.

The SanDisk 1.5 TB UHS-I microSD card is available now for a retail price of $230 and comes with a 10-year limited warranty.

SanDisk Pro-Cinema CFExpress Type B

For larger format content creators, SanDisk is also announcing a new 640GB Pro-Cinema CFExpress Type B media card. With sustained write speeds of up to 1,400 MB/S, the card supports shooting 8K video without dropping a single frame.

The Type B CFExpress card can also achieve burst writing speeds of 1500 MB/s and promises reading speeds of up to 1700 MB/s for transferring high-resolution, high-frame-rate videos. The card also works with SanDisk’s Professional Pro Reader CFExpress card reader and Pro Dock 4 devices.

The card is of robust and durable construction, crafted from high-impact plastic and aluminum, and is capable of withstanding a pressure of up to 50 newtons (11.2 pounds-force) and drops of up to 1 meter.

The SanDisk Pro-Cinema CFExpress Type B media card is available in both 320 GB and 640 GB capacities and is available now for a retail price of $400 and $700 respectively.
