Panasonic kicks off CES 2024 by announcing a new Lumix Series S Lens. Compact and lightweight, the new Lumix S-E100 100mm F2.8 Macro S-Series lens is the latest addition to Panasonic’s L-mount lineup which merges affordability with professional-grade performance. Let’s take a closer look.
Built around Panasonic’s Dual Phase Linear Autofocusing motors, the S-E100 is designed to be fast-focused with higher resolution and bokeh through its fast, F2.8 aperture.

The result is a close proximity image circle that produces portraits and images with soft, while the 9-bladed curved aperture offers cinematic depth of field.

The Dual Phase Linear motors also provide micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure change and both linear and nonlinear focusing.
This new motor also offers a double-focusing system that uses a new silent focusing actuator to provide accurate and sharp focus with life-size magnification, as well as silent movement and minimal optically corrected focus breathing when shooting video.
Internally, the S-E100 has 13 lens elements divided into 11 groups, including three aspherical lens elements, two extra-low dispersion glass elements, and one ultra-low dispersion glass element. Panasonic states that this alignment provides cross-frame sharpness and minimizes color fringing.
The lens also maintains its sharpness from the center of the image to the extreme edges of the frame. The lens has also been optimized to match other lenses in the S-Series in terms of color accuracy and sharpness to make it easier to match and color grade.

Other features include a minimal focusing distance of 20.4 cm (8.03 inches) micro step aperture control for smooth transitions of light and depth of field, and a 1:1 macro magnification.
The lens is also sealed to guard against dust and water splashing, and can effectively operate at extreme temperatures down to -10°C (14° F).
Compact at just 82mm long, and lightweight at 298 grams, the S-E100 lens is an ideal companion while shooting handheld and moving with the image. The lens also supports 67mm lens filters and lens hoods.
Pricing and availability
The Panasonic Lumix S-E100 100mm F2.8 Macro S-Series lens will be available with the L-Mount at the end of January 2024 for an MSRP of $999.99.
