Sony has announced the next phase of its firmware update road map for the Sony BURANO 8K Cinema Camera. This update introduces several new shooting modes, including a 1.8x de-squeeze anamorphic option.
With the release of version 2.01, users gain access to three new capture formats, including a 3.8K FFcrop in 16:9 for slow-motion video capture at up to 120 fps.
There’s also a pair of new Super 35 modes, including a 4:3 anamorphic for capturing at up to 60 fps, and a 1.9K 16:9 ifor capturing at speeds of up to 240 fps.

Keep in mind that selecting the last Super 35 option disables the SDI and HDMI outputs during capture.
Previewed at this year’s NAB in Las Vegas, Version 2.01 also expands frame rate options, now allowing settings of 66, 72, 75, 88, 90, 96, and 110 fps when in S&Q mode.
This flexibility enables camera operators to choose frame rates that align with the action, resulting in a more natural and cinematic style.
Additionally, the update introduces VF Gamma Display Assist for capturing in S-Log3 and a new FHD Monitor mode. These features let camera operators view the final image while recording with various adjustments applied.
The monitor displays information just outside the image frame, keeping the main image clear while providing essential metadata.
The new 1.8x de-squeezing anamorphic option enhances the monitoring experience, and relevant metadata, including camera ID, reel number, and media formatting options, is easily accessible on the monitor screen.
Moreover, metadata now supports Time Code and Clip Name, as well as details for breathing compensation and image stabilization during X-OCN capture.
Sony has increased the number of white balance memory slots to 8, which enhances flexibility for using various custom 3D LUTs and streamlines the workflow.
