Sigma Unveils Five Brand New Lenses at Photokina 2018

The show floor at Photokina 2018 was officially opened earlier this morning as the new announcements started to pour in shortly after. At the photo industry trade show in Cologne, Sigma has announced five new lenses from their famous Art series as well as Sports and Contemporary series covering everything from wide-angle to hyper-telephoto.

The all-new offerings include the 28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, 40mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, 56mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports, and the 70-200mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Sports lenses. Let’s take a closer look.

28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art

The new Sigma wide-angle model provides exceptional image quality with thoroughly corrected magnification chromatic aberration and completely minimized distortion mainly due to its superb optical design. The unit features water- and oil-repellent coating on the front lens element whereas its overall dust- and splash-proof structure ensures excellent performance even in the most challenging shooting conditions.

Furthermore, the model sports enhanced high-speed AF powered by Hyper Sonic Motor with an updated algorithm. The brand new Sigma 28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens will be available in Sigma, Nikon, Canon and Sony E camera mounts.

40mm F1.4 DG HSM Art

Thanks to its superior optical performance, the 40mm F1.4 DG HSM Art provides three FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements and three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements to correct axial chromatic aberration and magnification chromatic aberration.

It can accommodate 50 million pixels and above in full-frame still cameras and also meets the high-resolution requirements of leading-edge 8K video technology. Just like the 28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art sibling, 40mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens will be available for Sigma, Nikon, Canon, and Sony E mount camera systems.

60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports

According to Sigma, the 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports is the world’s first 10× optical zoom telephoto lens with a tele end of 600mm covering from 60mm to 600mm. The lens is constructed of 25 elements in 19 groups, and it incorporates Intelligent OS adopting the latest algorithm to deliver an image stabilization effect of 4 stops.

Its optical design, on the other hand, ensures maximum correction of magnification chromatic aberration encountered in hyper-telephoto shooting. This offers both high resolution and consistent edge-to-edge performance throughout the entire zoom range. The new Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG hyper-telephoto zoom lens will be available in Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts with expected shipping in late October 2018 selling for $1,999.
